Movie Date

Since this is my first summer here in Toronto, we are just discovering the sights and sounds of the city.  Today, we explored our the annual Sail-In Cinema.  It's something new to us so we decided to check it out.  The movie selection is pretty old but I grew up watching Back to the Future so we will be there early tomorrow night to watch it.  Besides the movies, we also got a few freebies from Toyota and Keurig.  Next year, I will mark it on the calendar so that I can get VIP tickets.

Badminton

Savings isn't all about accumulating as much as we can, it is also investing on somethings that will prevent expenses.

Since coming to Canada, I have gained weight.  A lot of weight.  So me and my wife decided to pick up a sport that we both played before, badminton.  We have a lot of fond memories playing the sport, I lost a tooth while playing with her as my doubles partner.  So now, we decided to get back into the sport.  We bought our racket and will be playing our first game with my uncle tomorrow.  We are also trying to look for places to play.  If ever you play or knows a badminton court, try to hit the comments. =)

Cellphone Plan

I had my plan for a year and as of now, I'm very satisfied with my plan.  We have FIDO's $25.00 standard plan and so far, it gives us what wee need.  Me and my wife can call each other for free via circle calling, we have 200 minutes, voicemail and Canada wide long distance.  However, it got me thinking, I will be eligible to leave my contract in a few months and would like to look for a better plan that would give me a better bang for my buck.  Perhaps, you can give suggestions?

CGA Enrollment

I just spent over $2,000.00 today.  Me and my wife have just enrolled on our first CGA course this fall semester.  The amount almost drained our account because we don't want to take a loan and add to our existing debt.  I was just shocked that education here in Canada is very expensive.  But, this is the life we have chosen and we plan to make the most out of it.  I just realized that investment is not just done through material things like stocks, GIC, real estate, etc.  But we must also invest in ourselves to supplement our monetary investments.  In a couple of years, God willing, I pray that we will be a CGA husband and wife.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

This is the one of the methods used by most people in building up there savings account.  Upon getting my first job, and having a pretty clear view of my budget, I opened a bank account from ING Direct.  For those who are not familiar with them, ING Direct is one of the leading online banks in Canada.  They have a higher interest rate (although not that much) from the traditional brick and mortar banks.  Also, they have very few branch and ATM network which makes it harder to access your cash.  I have been doing this for me and my wife so far, so good.  We are trying to save up for a 6 mos and we are now 1/6th of the way.  Hopefully and God willing, we will be able to save and start investing on much higher and riskier products.

Cheers!!!

Today is the Day...

Greetings readers!!!

Welcome to my blog and first post.  I was inspired by other blogger who are documenting their journey in saving for the future, being debt free and staying there.  I would like you to join me in this journey and I hope that I would learn from you as much as you could learn from me.

Cheers!!!
